DISTURBANCEs: One day in the distant future The Game of LIFE will be an interactive performance installation that integrates virtual reality simulation and storytelling. It will take place in a neighborhood library. You have come to apply for replacement of your recently lost birth certificate. At an available workstation, you begin the application process. When and where were you born? Where do you live? What is… but before you can continue answering the question, the application process is hijacked. Sights and sounds from your birthplace surround you. Your conscious mind has no recollection of all this. After all, you were an infant then. Time passes at an unnatural rate and you realize you are faced with a dilemma. You are aging. The workstation seems to be searching the library stacks and presenting you with situations that resemble your past, present and future possibilities. Your decisions are being scored. This scenario repeats many times. Your cumulative decision score determines the quality, style and length of your life. All this is enhanced with scenario specific visual and aural stimulation and interaction with a storyteller. With DISTURBANCEs, I am seeking to inspire participants to investigate the disturbances that are forming their futures.
